Contractor Provided SWP

Contractor-Provided Safe Work Practices (SWPs) are the written procedures a contractor brings to a job to control the hazards of their own scope of work. Where a task is covered by a contractor's own SWP, that procedure is expected to meet or exceed TPG's HSSE standards.

When a contractor SWP applies

Many specialized tasks — and the higher-risk activities covered by the Lifesaving Rules — are governed by a documented safe work practice. When you perform that work at a Timewise site, your SWP should be:

• Written and specific to the task and the equipment being used.
• Aligned with TPG's HSSE Standards and applicable API and IOGP requirements.
• Available on site and reviewed with the crew before work begins.
• Reflected in your Job Safety Analysis for the task.

Common activities covered by an SWP

These include, among others: hot work, energy isolation (lockout/tagout), confined space entry, excavation, work at height, mechanical lifting, and work around mobile equipment. Start-work check templates for many of these are available on the Start Work Checks page.
